Foray Art Foundation
About Foray
In 2024, the Foray Art Foundation (FAF) was established to preserve the legacy of under recognized artists of historical significance and to support contemporary artists from typically underrepresented backgrounds. The trident points of our mission include serving as a generous lending library, a vehicle for institutional donations and the source for biennial exhibitions (which will be free and open to the public).
The art market has been progressively dominated by profit driven tastemakers which is an artificial arbiter of relevance. The FAF will continue to focus on historical artists who produced revelatory and groundbreaking work, which may have been acknowledged by curators, but has little or no marketability. For these reasons many of these artist’s legacies are in peril and our foundation will be dedicated to highlighting their importance and providing material for exhibitions.
Next, the FAF will continue to actively collect contemporary artists from underrepresented backgrounds, both international and domestic, with a focus on gender, sexuality and people of color. This will be a lively and dynamic area for acquisitions and will include painting, sculpture, photography and video art.
The foundation’s holdings will always be available for institutional loans and exhibitions, both domestic and international. Eventually many of these works will find a permanent home in museums, primarily in Southern California. Finally, there will be a biennial based upon these holdings, likely thematically organized, which will be free and open to the public.
